Setting Up A Book On CreateSpace

Setting up a book on CreateSpace is a very simple process and easily self-guided. In this video, I will go through the main steps, and will show you how to fill in the rest of the details yourself.
Remember, if you are doing this for the first time, I would highly recommend going through the set-up process with a ‘mock’ book first, so that you can familiarise yourself with the steps, and make the set-up of your real book much easier.

First, of course sign in to your new CreateSpace account. You will then arrive at your Member Dashboard, where you will click ‘Add New Title’.

You will then be prompted to enter the Title Information of your book. This will include:

  • Book Title & Author
  • ISBN (CreateSpace assigned or independently sourced)
  • Interior (Upload)
  • Cover (Upload)

You will then be prompted to complete the set-up of your book and send you files for review. You will also be able to select your Distribution Channels, including the Amazon worldwide stores at which your book will be available. There will also be some Sales and Marketing information and options for you to consider.

Setting Up A CreateSpace Account

HOORAY!

You’ve finished your book, and had it edited 7 proofread by your friends/family/writer’s group/a professional editor.

Your manuscript is at its very best quality.

Congratulations! Your book is ready to be published! This is indeed the most exciting part.

In this post I will talk you through setting up a CreateSpace account, so that you can start publishing your paperback books.

A few facts about Publishing with CreateSpace

CreateSpace is a company operated by Amazon which enables authors to design and distribute their own self published paperback books.

An author will create an account with a username and password, and once set up will be able to work through each step of the publishing process.

There are professional services available to help with the set-up for a fee. The only money I have spent on CreateSpace to date is to have a paperback proof copy of my short story collection The New Neighbors shipped to my home address in Australia, which cost approximately $30AUD.

It is FREE to sign up and hold an account with both CreateSpace, and this online service guide users through the following book setup processes: Book Title Information

ISBN (the barcode you see on the back of books) Interior (the book manuscript) Cover Design Distribution Channels (where the book will be sold online).

Setting Up A CreateSpace Account

  1. Google ‘CreateSpace’ or go to www.createspace.com
  2. Click ‘Sign Up’ in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Enter your email address, password and first and last name
  4. Enter the Country in which you reside
  5. Enter the Type of media you will be publishing e.g. book, DVD, CD
  6. Click ‘Create Account’

You will then be directed to a Service Agreement, which you can read through and click ‘I Agree’. An email with then be sent to you with a confirmation link, and you will be automatically redirected to the CreateSpace website. You will then be prompted to select your publishing option, Do-It-Yourself or Assisted (engaging professional services through CreateSpace).

In my next video, I will show you how to set up your book on CreateSpace.

I hope you have found this information helpful. Make sure you SUBSCRIBE to my blog so you never miss out on my writing and publishing tips!

    PicMonkey Photo Editor

PicMonkey is an online photo editing and design service. It can be accessed from a web browser, or through the PicMonkey mobile app. PicMonkey can be used to create book cover designs from images uploaded from the user. PicMonkey offers a free 7-Day Trial.

    Ribbet Photo Editor

Ribbet is similar to PicMonkey, however PicMonkey requires you to sign up for a 7-day free trial or an account (which includes a fee). Ribbet allows you to use their site at your leisure without creating an account or signing up for a free trial. https://www.ribbet.com/app/?edit_photo#/home/welcome

    Stock Photos

Stock photos are an easily affordable option for creating quality book covers. There are a number of stock photo websites around, but although they advertise themselves as ‘free’, many still require you to pay for the images upon downloading them.

As an author, the two best sites I have come across are iStock and Dreamstime. They have a great supply of quality stock images that match keyword searches well.

CreateSpace and Kindle both have free Cover Creator services as part of their publishing processes. At this stage of the book set-up process, you have the option to either upload a cover image you have already designed, or you can use the Cover Creator, which provides EVERYTHING you need, including cover templates, various fonts and images, all absolutely free!

CreateSpace and Kindle do also offer cover design services for a fee.
