PSA Fellow Aussie Authors

Ahhh the Amazon saga continues *sigh*

If you have published books through Createpace and have not yet moved them/had them automatically moved across to KDP, it might be a good idea to order some printed copies from Createspace prior to the move. I’ve just tried to order author copies but was unable to because deliveries ‘cannot be made to Australia from the US store’

Apparently it is still possible for authors and readers in Australia to order books from the US Amazon store, it just requires some communication between the author and Amazon’s support team. I’m waiting to hear back about the next step, but the responses I’ve received have been prompt and helpful in the past. I’ll update when I know more.

I just don’t want other Aussie authors to get stuck unexpectedly, especially when you’ve got upcoming events you need stock for!

Amazon Advantage: Setting Up Your CreateSpace Paperback for Pre-Order

Making a CreateSpace Paperback book available for Pre-Order is quite different to its Kindle counterpart. But do not despair! It is a simple process, and the more times you do it, the easier it becomes!

The differences in the pre-order set-up between KDP Pre-Order and CreateSpace are that you can set up your KDP ebook for pre-order from your KDP account. To set up a CreateSpace paperback for pre-order, you need to use Amazon Advantage, a separate account and website to CreateSpace. Here’s how:

  1. Sign up for an Amazon Advantage account.
  2. Once signed in, you will be redirected to your AA dashboard. In the top left corner, there is a tab titled ‘Items’. Click on this option, and then in the drop down menu ‘Add An Item.
  3. You will then select the Product Type. Click ‘Book’. A field will then appear which will ask for the ISBN of your book. Make sure you take out any dashes (-).
  4. Once you have saved this information, on the next page you will fill in your book’s details and information (title/author name/blurb etc).
  5. Once all fields are completed, click submit.

You can have your book completely set up on CreateSpace when you set up the pre-order on Amazon Advantage. However, there is one more thing you need to do to stop the book from being made available immediately on Amazon.

  1. Log in to your CreateSpace account
  2. Go to your project’s home page
  3. Click on ‘Distribution Channels’
  4. Deselect all of the distribution channels (Amazon stores and Expanded Distribution)

Your book should then appear as available for Pre-Order within 24 hours.

Setting Up Your Kindle Book For Pre-order

Setting up a book for pre-order with Kindle Direct Publishing is very easy and quick, and a great way to generate sales in your book prior to its release.

You are able to schedule your book for pre-release three months prior to the release date, and this option is a simple selection when you are setting up your book for publication.

The best part? You don’t even need to have your book finished to set it up for pre-order!

You can just upload a word document and save it as part of the set-up, and come back later and upload the final manuscript!

A Step-By Step Guide To Setting Up Your Kindle Ebook For Pre-Order
