In April 2023, I competed in Bend the Air, an annual competition in Australia for emerging aerial, acrobatic, and circus arts performers. I performed my Skyfall/ James Bond 007 aerial and hula hoop routine in the Circus category.
I didn’t make it past the first heat. But winning wasn’t my motivation for participation. I was proud I did it, as were my dad and stepmum in the audience.
After the event, I decided competitive aerial arts wasn’t for me. I prefer to compete anonymously in writing competitions. Performing is nerve-wracking enough without judges in the front row! But I’m glad I did it, and had so much fun on the night. My dad even bought me a souvenir hoodie.
