Imagine a beginner writer starting out on their storytelling journey. They’re going to creative writing workshops and classes. They’re being told about author platforms, social followings, websites, SEO, and publishing tools. I believe this is where a lot of beginner writers get demotivated and put the whole thing in the too-hard basket. They have been given way too much information, which is not appropriate for where they are on their writing journey.
And because of this overwhelm, so many would-be writers don’t even start.
They’re thinking, ‘I don’t know what the point of being a writer is if I’m not aspiring to this great big publishing goal.’
I find it so sad when this is the only goal of the beginner writer. And it’s incredibly sad to observe writers not being writers because they’re not published, or they’re scared they won’t be.
There is so much joy to be found in the creative process.
Be present with where you are in the journey. Show up every day, and enjoy the process.
